"Remote Sound Tuning in Automobiles" Moderated by Roger Shively

"Remote Sound Tuning in Automobiles"

June 9, 2021 | 12-2pm Eastern Standard Time

Is there a collective will to continue to explore the use of remote subjective evaluations using remote tunings as part of the automotive audio design process? Or is the psychological break between tuning live and tuning through headphones too great? In this session, our very own Roger Shively, and the APEI’s Automotive Pillar Chair, will welcome presentations and a panel discussion with four automotive industry experts, discussing their experiences with demonstrations of the methods used.

There will be live audio demonstrations. Attendees should prepare for the best audio playback they can manage.

More information about this online event and future APEI webinars can be found on their website here.

Roger Shively (APEI Automotive Pillar Chair) and Shelley Uprichard, (Tonmeister), independent audio engineer, frequently consulting in perceptual audio and tuning, will co-host the session and present on the subjective evaluation work.

Roger recently moderated the APEI, now known as the Audio Product Development Alliance (APDA), Automotive Audio section of the AES Fall Show in October of this year, as pictured, in addition to moderating each month’s APEI Automotive Audio webinar this year!

Marc Levasseur, independent audio engineer and consultant, with extensive experience in automotive audio sound tuning, will begin the session describing his use of Illusonic’s solutions, together with Christof Faller (Illusonic founder), will then demonstrate auralization with head-tracking and headphone compensation equalization. Finally, Michael Fabry, General Manager at DSP Concepts Germany, former founder of S1nn, and manager of audio systems for companies such as Harman/Becker and Bose, will demonstrate capturing the acoustics footprint and offline tuning. As always, the twohour session will conclude with an opportunity for questions from attendees and a general discussion from all four industry experts.

The mission of the APEI Automotive Pillar is to explore and explain the practical approach and development of all the products that are conceived, planned, designed, and implemented in automotive car audio. They plan to hold an online session for Automotive Audio every month, so stay tuned for our upcoming sessions in 2021.
